Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) this week returned from a nine-day overseas visit to the South American countries Paraguay and Belize, two of Taiwan's few remaining diplomatic allies, as well as two stopovers in the United States. The visit was aimed at shoring up Taiwan's relations with its allies as well as allowing the President a chance to meet with US officials and overseas Taiwanese in Los Angeles and Houston, where she had stopovers. But the trip turned into a storm in a coffee cup after she paid a visit the Taiwanese café and bakery chain 85 Degrees C in LA. And China had a surprise for her upon her return.
