Taipei, Sept. 20 (CNA) Sales of the new iPhone series, comprising the high-end iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max and the cheaper iPhone 11, kicked off in Taiwan Friday, attracting many loyal Apple fans, including a 27-year-old man who started waiting at a retailer in Taipei nearly six days ago.

The consumer, surnamed Hung (洪), was first in line at Chunghwa Telecom's Vieshow service store in the bustling Xinyi District Friday, who purchased an iPhone 11 Pro Max soon after the store opened at 8 a.m.

Hung, who said his previous Apple smartphone was an iPhone 6, expressed particular enthusiasm for the new iPhone's innovative triple camera lenses.

When he arrived at the store nearly six days ago, nobody was lining up at the service stores run by Taiwan's three largest telecommunication service operators -- Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile and FarEasTone Telecommunications -- he told CNA.

"I carried 11 mobile batteries with me for the long wait," he said.

As of 8 a.m. Friday, however, there were over 100 people waiting in front of the three telecom operators' Vieshow stores, some of whom had been in line since Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man surnamed Hsu (許) was the first client at Apple Inc.'s Xinyi A13 direct sales store Friday. He had waited in front of the store since 4 a.m. that day.

A 12-year iPhone user, Hsu said he purchases a new iPhone approximately every two years, this time replacing a white 256G iPhone X with a midnight green 256G iPhone 11 Pro.

Hsu was also the first buyer at Apple's Taipei 101 direct sales store -- the first of its kind in Taiwan -- in 2017 when the American company began sales of its new iPhone series here.

What attracted him the most is the iPhone 11 Pro Max's features of an ultra wide-angle camera lens and night vision, Hsu said.

On Sept. 10, Apple unveiled the iPhones 11 series to replace the previous models of the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR launched in September 2018. Taiwan is one of the markets worldwide included in the first round of global sales.

The 5.8-inch Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) iPhone 11 Pro, featuring Apple's new triple camera lenses, carries a starting price of NT$35,900 (US$1,158), while the 6.5-inch OLED iPhone 11 Pro Max model has a base price of NT$39,900, according to the Apple Taiwan website.

The more affordable 6.1-inch LCD iPhone 11 starts at NT$24,900, NT$2,000 cheaper than its predecessor, the iPhone XR.

The iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max are offered in midnight green, silver, space gray and gold, while the iPhone 11 is available in purple, yellow, green, black, white and red.
