Taipei, Jan. 24 (CNA) With a new year comes new iPhones from Apple, the newest of which many media outlets are speculating will be announced around September or October.

MacRumors, a tech website devoted to Apple news, reported Tuesday new information from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (郭明錤) regarding a 6.1-inch iPhone that is expected to be unveiled in the second half of the year.

According to a research note MacRumors obtained from Kuo, the 6.1 model will be a cheaper, more affordable alternative to the 5.8-inch iPhone X and the 6.5-inch model tentatively dubbed the iPhone X Plus.

The 6.1-inch handset, while having some of the features of the iPhone X such as Face ID, cuts down on cost by opting for a TFT-LCD screen, an aluminum frame, single-lens rear camera, and no 3D Touch.

The result is a model that is expected to cost between US$700 to US$800 in the U.S., MacRumors said, quoting Kuo.

The 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch models will both have an OLED screen, a stainless steel frame, dual-lens rear camera, and 3D Touch, each of which according to AppleInsider, another Apple news site, should sell for at least US$999.

Given the more affordable price of the 6.1-inch iPhone X Plus, MacRumors noted that "KGI Securities expects the 6.1-inch iPhone X Plus to account for around 50 percent of the new iPhone lineup's shipments, with sales remaining strong into 2019."
