Taipei, Sept. 7 (CNA) Taiwan is one of the countries targeted for the first launch of the new iPhone 8, according to an informed source that asked not to be named.

The iPhone 8 would be available for pre-order in the Taiwan market starting Sept. 15, days after Apple Inc.'s expected official release of its latest iPhone, the source said on Thursday.

If that happens, it will be Taiwan's second consecutive year as a first-wave country for the launch of Apple's next generation iPhones.

The source said Apple has been in private discussions with Taiwan's five major telecom carriers -- Chunghwa Telecom, FarEasTone, Taiwan Mobile, Taiwan Star Telecom and Asia Pacific Telecom - on the arrangements for the start of pre-orders on Sept. 15.

Apple is scheduled to hold a Special Live Event on Sept. 12 at the Steve Jobs Theater, which is being dubbed in the industry as the official launch of the iPhone 8.

At the live event, Apple is expected to debut its 5.2-inch OLED iPhone 8, as well as its 4.7-inch LCB iPhone 7s and 5.5-inch LCB iPhone 7s Plus.
