Taipei, July 28 (CNA) Taiwanese electric smartscooter maker Gogoro Inc. on Friday launched its first battery-swapping station in Taiwan that is powered by solar energy.

The new GoStation, located in New Taipei's Bali District near the Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology, is equipped with eight solar panels, which produce an average of 6.21 kilowatt hours (kWh) of power every day, according to the company.

The power produced is used to charge some of the batteries at the station.

A typical GoStation allows riders to replace their depleted batteries with fully charged ones.

On a screen at the station, riders can monitor the status of solar power generation, the amount of carbon emissions reduced and other information, so that they learn about their contribution to the environment, according to the company.

There are currently 25,000 Gogoro riders, and close to 5 million battery swaps have occurred, reducing carbon emissions by 7.2 million kilograms for the earth, the company said.

To encourage more visits to the solar-powered station in Bali District, riders who swap batteries at the station will receive an Apollo badge on their Gogoro app.
