Taipei, July 13 (CNA) Taiwanese smartphone brand HTC Corp. (宏達電) said on Thursday that although the company respects the intellectual property rights of others, it will rigorously defend its own rights in response to an accusation of patent infringement made by a Japan-based light-emitting diode (LED) firm.

HTC made the statement after Nichia Corp. said it had filed a patent infringement lawsuit in Germany at the Düsseldorf District Court on June 29, alleging infringement of its white LED patent by HTC's flagship model -- the HTC U Ultra -- and seeking damages from the Taiwanese firm.

HTC said it is still looking into the case to gain a better understanding of related details and declined to comment for the moment.

HTC added it has been in contact with its suppliers to reassure them customers' rights will not be affected by the dispute and company operation remain as normal.
