Chunghwa Telecom signs MOU with Nokia on 5G technology

Taipei, Feb. 27 (CNA) Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on fifth-generation (5G) technology cooperation with Nokia Corp. at the GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona on Monday.

CHT Chairman Cheng Yu (鄭優) said his company has devoted considerable research and planning to 5G technology and the internet of things (IoT).

The company has a booth showing its smart accessible services at the four-day MWC that started on Monday.

Meanwhile, Taiwan Mobile Co. on Friday said it will finish a virtualized mobile gateway (VMG) through cooperation with Nokia by the end of February, becoming the first Taiwanese firm to operate in a network function virtualization (NFV).

Taiwan Mobile said it signed an MOU with Nokia on 5G tech cooperation last July.
