Taipei, Feb. 23 (CNA) Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) on Thursday announced it will officially introduce the world's first LTE-WLAN aggregation (LWA) services later this year.
LWA allows mobile handsets supporting both LTE and Wi-Fi to access LTE and Wi-Fi networks simultaneously, increasing transmission speeds to up to 400 Mbps, CHT said.
CHT began to develop LWA technology in 2015 in cooperation with the Industrial Research Technology Institute and MediaTek Inc, according to the company.
At present, HTC's U Play is the only Taiwan-developed smartphone model to support LWA services, CHT said.
In the early stage of the roll-out of LWA services, clients using LWA-supporting mobile phones will be able to access the new services at certain CHT retail sites in Taipei and New Taipei, before the services are expanded to certain universities, fast food restaurants and chain stores, the company said.
