Taipei, Nov. 29 (CNA) Starting December, individual travelers from Taiwan visiting Thailand will be required to provide financial details in order to obtain a visitor's visa to the country, local-based travel agencies said Friday.

On Nov. 12, the Thailand Trade and Economic Office in Taipei announced it was implementing an E-visa application and E-payment system starting Nov. 30, with holders of Republic of China passports required to apply for a visa online and schedule an appointment to submit their passports in person at the Thai office in Taipei.

The Thailand Trade and Economic Office will cease to accept walk-in visa applications without an online appointment, it explained.

Meanwhile, local travel operators confirmed Friday that starting in December, applicants will also need to provide bank details for the last three months as proof they can cover their travel expenses.

Taipei-based Cola Tour said the requirement is limited to individual travelers, and that people in tour groups will only have to provide a letter of guarantee from their place of work or travel operator.

According to statistics from Taiwan's Tourism Bureau, the number of Taiwanese visitors to Thailand totaled 700,356 from January to October this year, a 23.96 percent increase from the same period in 2018.
