Heavy rain warning issued for northern, northeastern Taiwan

Taipei, Sept. 5 (CNA) The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) has issued a heavy rain warning for northern and northeastern Taiwan triggered by the outer reaches of Typhoon Lingling.

The warning was issued at 9:55 a.m. Thursday for Keelung City, Taipei, New Taipei and Yilan County.

Other parts of Taiwan, especially eastern and southeastern areas, will see isolated showers and thunderstorms, the bureau added.

Due to the rainfall, temperatures around Taiwan are expected to drop, with daytime temperatures forecast to hover between 28-31 degrees Celsius, the CWB said.

As of 8 a.m., Typhoon Lingling was located 380 kilometers east-southeast of Taipei, moving north at a speed of 13 kilometers per hour, the weather bureau said.

The typhoon was carrying maximum winds of 162 kph with gusts of up to 198 kph, according to CWB data.

On its current path, Lingling is likely to continue to move in a northerly direction as it passes through seas off eastern Taiwan.
