Taipei, July 8 (CNA) The weather in Taiwan will remain sultry Monday as southwesterly winds persist, with daytime temperatures rising to 36 degrees Celsius in the Greater Taipei area, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The southwesterly winds will bring rain to southern Taiwan, sporadic showers to the central areas, and afternoon thundershowers to northeastern and mountainous areas across the island, the weather bureau said.

Daytime highs will reach at least 33 degrees in most areas but will hit 36 degrees in Greater Taipei, Taoyuan, southern parts of Taitung County and the East Rift Valley, the CWB said.

Greater Taipei refers to the Taipei-Keelung metropolitan area in northern Taiwan.

The bureau warned of hazardous levels of ultraviolet radiation, saying people should take precautions to prevent sunburn.
