Taipei, March 13 (CNA) A new multi-ride ticket program for Taiwan's high speed rail system will be available from March 15, aimed at offering greater flexibility for its frequent customers, Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. (THSRC) said Wednesday.

The ticket, which allows a specified number of rides to and from designated stations at a discounted rate, will be valid within either 30 days or 60 days rather than the existing plan of 45 days, the company said.

Under the new plan, travelers can choose between eight rides within 60 days or 10 rides within 30 days, the equivalent of an 8 percent or 18 percent discount, calculated based on full fares for non-reserved seats, it said.

The company said it hopes the new program will offer more travel options, particularly for those who use its service often.

The current multi-ride ticket, which allows for eight rides within 45 days at 13 percent off the normal price, will remain available for purchase until March 14.

Existing holders can still travel after March 15 with their rights and interests unaffected, according to the THSRC.

To promote the new program, the company said, holders of the new multi-ride tickets purchased between March 15 and June 30, and used before June 30 can purchase another non-reserved seat ticket at half price before July 31, while HSR TGo members will gain an extra 50 percent-worth of bonus points.

Passengers are also reminded that the multi-ride tickets are not available for travel between Nangang and Taipei, Nangang and Banqiao, and Taipei and Banqiao stations.
