Magnitude 3.8 quake rocks Taipei

Taipei, Feb. 10 (CNA) A magnitude 3.8 earthquake jolted Shihlin District of Taipei in northern Taiwan at 4:12 a.m. Sunday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The quake was centered at sea about 11.1 kilometers north of Taipei City Hall and struck at a depth of 7.7 km, the bureau's Seismology Center said.

The earthquake's intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a temblor, was highest in Taipei and New Taipei, where it measured 3 on Taiwan's 7-tier intensity scale, the CWB said.

Yilan recorded an intensity of 2 with several other areas in Taoyuan, Keelung and Hsinchu also reporting an intensity of 1, the CWB added.

But, no casualties were immediately reported.

On Saturday afternoon, a magnitude 3.2 earthquake also hit Shihlin District, about 11.5 kilometers northwest of Taipei City Hall and at a depth of 9.1 km.
