Hanoi, July 11 (CNA) The number of visits by Taiwanese travelers to Vietnam amounted to 338,956 in the first half of this year, representing a growth of 13.8 percent compared with the same period of last year, according to statistics released by Vietnam's National Administration of Tourism.

The scale of Taiwanese visits was the fifth-largest among those from foreign countries to Vietnam in the six-month period.

In June, visits by Taiwanese travelers to Vietnam reached 55,406, the statistics show.

The tallies indicate that Chinese travelers were most fond of paying for tours to the Southeast Asian country in the first half of the year, with nearly 2.57 million visits. They were followed by visits by South Korean and Japanese travelers at 1.71 million and 400,000, respectively.

The administration noted that the country's tourism sector organized a variety of activities and recorded positive achievements, proven by nearly 7.9 million visits by international travelers in the first six months of the year.

The number of international visitors represents growth of 27.2 percent year on year, the administration said.

Vietnam has set a goal of attracting 15.5 million foreign visitors and 78 million domestic trippers this year, so that the annual tourism turnover could reach about US$26.8 billion, according to the administration.
