The mercury soared to 37.9 degrees Celsius at 12:37 p.m. in the eastern Taiwan township, the highest recorded anywhere in Taiwan in 2018, the CWB said.

In addition, the temperature reached 36 degrees in Taipei at 11:42 a.m., the highest in Taiwan's capital this year, according to the bureau.
