Magnitude 4.7 quake rocks southeastern Taiwan

Taipei, April 16 (CNA) A magnitude 4.7 earthquake jolted southeastern Taiwan at 9:48 p.m. Monday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The epicenter of the earthquake was located at sea about 37.1 kilometers northeast of Taitung County Hall at a depth of 22.2 km, the bureau's Seismology Center said.

The earthquake's intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a temblor, was highest in Chenggong Township in Taitung, where it measured 3 on Taiwan's 7-tiered intensity scale.

The earthquake could be felt in other parts of southern Taiwan, with intensity levels of 1 and 2.
