Taipei, April 11 (CNA) A Chinese trawler and its crew have been detained by the Penghu coast guard for poaching in Taiwan's waters, the Coast Guard Administration said Wednesday.

The China-based Pu-Mei No. 30161 and its crew of nine were apprehended after being intercepted while operating illegally 15.4 nautical miles northwest of Penghu's Mudou Islet Tuesday, said Lin Chih-ming (林志明), deputy chief of the Penghu coast guard.

Some 100 kilograms of fish seized aboard the vessel was tossed into the sea.

Its captain, surnamed Zhu, and the eight other fishermen were detained in Penghu for further investigation.

The Pu-Mei No. 30161 was the fifth Chinese fishing vessel caught by the Penghu coast guard since the beginning of this year, as weather conditions have markedly improved around the outlying island.
