Weather front expected to arrive Thursday evening

Taipei, March 14 (CNA) A weather front is expected to reach Taiwan on Thursday evening, bringing with it rain nationwide the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Wednesday.

CWB forecaster Kuan Hsin-ping (官欣平) said the weather is forecast to remain stable and sunny on Wednesday and early Thursday.

On Wednesday, temperature highs are expected to hit 30 degrees Celsius in northern Taiwan, 27-28 degrees in central Taiwan and as high as 31 degrees in the south, the CWB said.

Despite the warm weather, sharp fluctuations between daytime and nighttime temperatures are expected to continue with the mercury likely to fall to 17 degrees in the north, 16 degrees in central Taiwan and 18 degrees in the south, the CWB said.

The CWB said thick fog is expected to hit western Taiwan and outlying Kinmen and Matsu on Wednesday, urging the public to remain alert over low visibility on the roads.

The lowest temperature in low-lying areas of Taiwan early Wednesday morning was recorded in Chiayi at 15.6 degrees ahead of 15.7 degrees in the Xinwu District of Taoyuan, according to the CWB.

Sporadic showers are forecast in mountainous areas of western Taiwan on Wednesday afternoon, while Yilan, Hualien and Taitung in the east could also see occasional rain, the CWB added.

After the weather front arrives on Thursday evening, there will be rainfall around Taiwan with thundershowers expected in western areas, the CWB said, forecasting temperature highs in the day of 28-29 degrees in northern Taiwan, 28 degrees in central Taiwan and 31 degrees in the south during the day.

That weather pattern is forecast to continue into Friday, the CWB said.

The bureau indicates the weather will become more unstable on Saturday due to the northeast monsoon. Temperatures are expected to fall to 16-21 degrees in the north, 17-27 degrees in central Taiwan and 20-30 degrees in southern areas, the CWB added.

The weather could become sunny again on Sunday and Monday before another weather front arrives on Tuesday, the CWB said.
