In addition to the military drills, the band was also equipped with a full compliment of drums, trombones, saxophones and flutes.

Chen Hsun-hui (陳勳慧), the school's military instructor, said the students were honored to be invited to perform at the event.

"The Republic of China exists Because of Sun Yat-sen," Chen added.

According to a press release from the school, the band was formed in 1962 and its members are called "Apollo's daughters," a reference to the sun god and their yellow uniforms.

The band has performed both locally and overseas, with performances in Shanghai in May 2010 and Malaysia in June 2015, according to the press release.

Also present at the event were an array of other cultural performances, including dance groups dressed in traditional indigenous costumes and many different choir groups eager to share their respect of Sun through song.

Sun Yat-sen (1866-1925) played a major role in the overthrow of the Qing dynasty, the last imperial dynasty in China and founded the ROC in 1912.
