Taipei, Nov. 12 (CNA) The luxury cruise ship Ovation of the Seas docked Sunday in Taichung Port for the first time, bringing 4,000 passengers from Hong Kong and Macau.

The visitors were greeted with cultural presentations, including a drumming performance, which were organized by the Taichung City government.

At the welcome ceremony, Taichung Deputy Mayor Lin Ling-san (林陵三) said the visit by the cruise liner with 4,000 passengers aboard was the result of efforts by the city over the past two years to promote its tourism in Hong Kong.

He said the city was inviting more cruise ship tourists to visit during the 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition that will run from November next year to April, 2019.

As part of its efforts to accommodate the one-day visit by the Ovation of the Seas, the Taichung City government arranged shuttle buses to take the visitors on six different sightseeing tours, according to Chen Sheng-shan (陳盛山), head of the city's Tourism and Travel Bureau.

The tours included sites such as National Taichung Theater, a recreational area called Maple Garden, an old town, Dajia Jenn Lann Temple, and a boardwalk called Calligraphy Greenway, Chen said.

The 167,800-ton cruise liner, chartered by Wing On Travel Service in Hong Kong, departed Taichung the same day, after setting out from Hong Kong Wednesday and docking at Keelung Friday and Hualien Saturday.
