Taichung hit by record-breaking October heat

Taipei, Oct. 8 (CNA) The Taichung weather station recorded a high of 38.3 degrees Celsius at 14:03 p.m. on Sunday, the highest temperature ever recorded in the city in October since the station's establishment in 1896, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said.

It was also the hottest temperature reading in all of Taiwan so far this October and the third highest October temperature reading in Taiwan's history, according to the CWB.

The weather in central and southern Taiwan was largely sunny and hot Sunday because of the effects of a tropical depression, with Wuchi District in Taichung also recording its highest ever temperature for October at 33.9 degrees at 11:36 a.m., the bureau said.

Taiwan's all-time October high is 38.5 degrees, set in Taitung on Oct. 10, 1994 and at the Cheng Kung weather station on the border between Hualien and Taitung counties on Oct. 6, 2007, respectively, according to the CWB.
