Magnitude 4.5 earthquake hits northeastern Taiwan

Taipei, Sept. 11 (CNA) A magnitude 4.5 earthquake jolted northeastern Taiwan at 10:25 a.m. Monday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The earthquake's epicenter was located at sea about 34.7 kilometers east of Yilan County Hall, at a depth of 68.5 km, bureau officials said.

The earthquake's highest intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a temblor, was highest in Nanao, Yilan, where it measured 3 on Taiwan's 7-tiered intensity scale.

The earthquake also measured an intensity of 2 in neighboring New Taipei City and Hualien County, bureau data showed.

An intensity of 1 was felt in Taipei City.
