Highs of 34-36 degrees expected in Taiwan on Friday

Taipei, Aug. 11 (CNA) Hot and sunny weather will prevail throughout Taiwan on Friday, with temperatures in northern Taiwan surging as high as 36 degrees Celsius, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

As a result of weakening southwesterly winds and reduced moisture, only coastal areas in southern parts of Taiwan saw sporadic showers in the morning, the bureau said.

As it has been the case in recent weeks, daytime highs in greater Taipei, Keelung and Taoyuan in northern Taiwan are likely to hit 35 or 36 degrees, while the rest of the country can expect highs of between 33 and 34 degrees, the CWB said.

It warned the public to take precautions against sunburn while outdoors and to be on the alert for weather changes on the afternoon and evening as thunderstorms in mountainous areas of the country are likely.

Meanwhile, the air quality across the country, including the outlying islands, has been ranked good to moderate, according to data on a website of the Environment Protection Administration at http://goo.gl/hE50ct.
