Taipei records highest temperature of the year in Taiwan

Taipei, Aug. 7 (CNA) Temperatures in Taipei set a new 2017 high for the city and the entire country on Monday, hitting 38.5 degrees at 1:57 p.m., the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said.

That reading eclipsed the previous high for Taiwan this year of 38.3 degrees, recorded in the city at 11:57 a.m., the CWB said.

CWB forecaster Hsu Chung-yi (徐仲毅) said the 38.5-degree reading was the eighth highest at the Taipei weather station since it was set up in 1897. The station's all-time high reading was 39.3 degrees on Aug. 8, 2013.
