Taipei, April 18 (CNA) The Tourism Bureau on Tuesday invited flower lovers to visit Guishan Island off northeastern Taiwan as lilies grown on the island approach peak blooming season.

The island, which is only open to the public from March to November each year, has already seen 40 percent of its lilies in full bloom, according to the Northeast Coast National Scenic Area Administration.

The peak season for lilies on Guishan Island is between late April and early May, the administration said, adding that the most common types are the Easter lily and Taiwanese lily.

In addition to flower watching, visitors are also encouraged to take a ferry around the island or go whale watching, it said.

However, picking lilies is strictly prohibited, with offender subject to a minimum fine of NT$5,000 (US$164), the administration warned.
