Taipei, Jan. 26 (CNA) An online magazine based in New York has listed two stations of the Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit System among the world's eight most elegant subway stations, which it said "New Yorkers could only dream of."

PoliyMic praised Formosa Boulevard Station for the "Dome of Light," the largest one-piece stained glass work in the world, for giving the station "an otherworldly feel."

It calls Central Park Station, the other Taiwanese station on the list, "among the most original subway stations in the world" with its giant indoor park designed by British architect Richard Rogers.

The former Soviet Union trumps the rest of the world with three stations, all built and opened in the Soviet era, on the list. They include Moscow's Komsomolskaya Station, which is consistently named one of the most beautiful in the world for its architecture and opulent decor.

"New York may have the world's most famous subway, but does it have the most beautiful stations?" asked the magazine.

"From Stockholm to Taiwan, these cities have transformed a mundane commute into a journey through some of the world's most beautiful architecture," it went on.

The eight stations picked by the magazine for their elegance are as follows:

1. Komsomolskaya Station, Moscow, Russia

2. Formosa Boulevard, Kaohsiung, Taiwan

3. Kirovsky Zavod Station, St. Petersburg, Russia

4. T-Centralen Station, Stockholm, Sweden

5. Central Park Station, Kaohsiung, Taiwan

6. Champ-De-Mars, Montreal, Canada

7. Zoloti Vorota Station, Kiev, Ukraine

8. City Hall, New York City

New Yorkers can only dream of City Hall Station in Manhattan, as it has been out of use since 1945, the magazine noted.

PolicyMic describes itself as "produced by our generation, for our generation."

The Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit System has a total of 37 stations along two lines. Formosa Boulevard and Central Park Stations have won numerous recognitions and the Dome of Light has become a popular setting for wedding photo sessions.
