Taipei, Oct. 10 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) treated visiting foreign dignitaries, including President Mario Abdo Benitez of Paraguay, to Taiwan's world-famous steamed dumplings or xiaolongbao (小籠包), as they took part in Double Ten National Day celebrations at a reception Wednesday attended by thousands of guests.

Tsai joined President Abdo, Sir Tapley Seaton, the governor-general of the Caribbean nation of St. Kitts and Nevis, and Allen Michael Chastanet, prime minister of Saint Lucia, for a tour of booths offering a wide range of local and international cuisine at the Taipei Guest House.

The group stopped at the booths for Din Tai Fung (鼎泰豐) Xiaolongbao; Taiwanese meatballs (肉圓); and peanut roll with ice cream (花生捲冰淇淋), all popular traditional Taiwanese dishes.

Ding Tai Fung Chairman Warren Yang (楊紀華) said during Tsai and Abdo's visit to the booth, the president told her Paraguayan counterpart that Din Tai Fung's Xiaolongbao are the best in Taiwan. Abdo ate one Xiaolongbao and one shrimp dumpling and praised them as delicious, according to Yang.

Adbo and his wife also said the meatballs were "excellent," according to the waitress who served the couple.

The group later enjoyed artistic performances before Tsai left for Hualien to host the National Day fireworks display.
