Taipei, Sept. 13 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) commended Taiwanese photographer Fu Ie-feng (傅譯鋒) Thursday for helping capture the beauty of Taiwan, sharing on her Facebook page a picture of Pengjia Islet which he entered in an international photography competition.

Fu's photograph captioned "Thor help me light up the clouds" was selected as one of 75 finalists out of 1,000 entries for the World Meteorological Organization's (WMO) 2019 calendar under the theme "The Sun, the Earth and the Weather."

However, Fu subsequently withdrew his entry after the United Nation's agency changed the origin of his Pengjia photo from Taiwan to "Taiwan, Province of China."

Fu, who currently works at Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau (CWB), protested the name change but to no avail.

On Wednesday, CWB's senior technical specialist Wu Wan-hua (伍婉華) said despite the protest, the WMO refused to change its decision, saying the location name was "in line with United Nations' practice."

"This photograph by Fu should have been seen by the world, but only with the correct information," Tsai said on her Facebook page Thursday.

Facebook followers of the WMO have had since Aug. 31 to select the final 13 photos for the calendar from the 75 finalists.
