President urges young people to develop global vision

Taipei, May 12 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) encouraged high school students Saturday to build global vision and interact with the world.

Speaking at a forum held by Business Today magazine for the third year in a row, Tsai told around 300 attending students that young people in Taiwan must be able to go global in the face of the country's difficult international situation.

"We must be able to step out, and also let people outside come toward us," Tsai said, stressing that the younger generation will face global competition that goes beyond the local or cross-Taiwan Strait level.

Tsai said it is also important for Taiwanese to be confident in themselves, and that such self-assurance will help the country survive and become better.

She expressed hope that the next generation will be equipped with leadership and the ability to integrate resources, make strategic decisions and handle pressure.
