New chief aide-de-camp to president announced

Taipei, Nov. 27 (CNA) From next month Maj. Gen. Chang Chieh (張捷), deputy chief of staff of the Republic of China Army Command, will also serve as the chief aide-de-camp to President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文), the Ministry of National Defense (MND) announced Monday.

Chang will take over from Admiral Liu Chih-pin (劉志斌), who has served in the position since Tsai's inauguration in May 2016. Liu will become commander of Navy Fleet Command, according to an MND statement.

Incumbent Navy Fleet commander Admiral Hsiao Wei-min (蕭維民) has been appointed to serve as the new Navy Command deputy commander, according to military spokesman Chen Chung-chi (陳中吉).

A graduate from the ROC Military Academy's class of 1986, Chang previously served as director of operations in the Army's Sixth Corps, commander of the 542nd Brigade and president of the ROC Military Academy, it noted.

Meanwhile, Liu is a graduate of the ROC Naval Academy's class of 1984, National Defense University's Naval Command and Staff College and the War College. He has served as head of the Navy's 124th Flotilla, chief of staff of the Navy Fleet Command and deputy chief of staff of the Navy Command Headquarters.
