Taipei, Oct. 10 (CNA) Taiwan will increase its imports of beef from Paraguay to strengthen Taiwan-Paraguay trade relations, President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) said Tuesday.

Tsai made the remark when she received Paraguay's Supreme Court head Luis Maria Benitez Riera at the Presidential Office that day.

The president said Benitez is a strong advocate for Taiwan- Paraguay exchanges in the field of law, including pushing for an agreement on mutual assistance in criminal justice. Tsai expressed hope for more cooperation in this field in the future.

With diplomatic relations of 60 years, the two countries are strong allies and have plenty to show in terms of cooperation and exchanges, Tsai went on.

Taiwan also plans to increase the number of scholarships available for students from Paraguay wishing to study in Taiwan, she added.

The president said that due to efforts by both countries, an upcoming agreement on economic cooperation between Taiwan and Paraguay will deepen economic development between the two countries even further when it comes into effect.
