Taipei, Aug. 7 (CNA) More Taiwanese will be able to take a working holiday in Canada in 2017 after Canada raised its quota for Taiwanese participation in the program from 1,000 to 1,200, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Monday.

The Canadian government recently agreed to give Taiwan the 200 extra quota for the remainder of this year because of an enthusiastic response from local young people, the ministry noted in a press release.

Young Taiwanese adults looking to gain work experience while traveling in Canada this year can still submit applications for the program, the ministry said.

The Taiwan-Canada working holiday agreement first took effect in 2010.

Under the program, people aged 18-35 from the two countries are allowed to travel and work in each other's territory for up to one year.

Working holiday programs with various countries have proven popular among Taiwanese youth in recent years.
