Taipei, Aug. 3 (CNA) The National Security Council will hold a drill Aug. 4-6, simulating an attack on a motorcade carrying the country's president and vice president, sources familiar with the plans told CNA Thursday.

The security personnel involved will take action to protect the president, vice president and heads of different agencies, and escort them in armored vehicles to safety at an emergency response center, the sources said.

The drill will also include protection of the country's key infrastructure and will rehearse procedures to analyze and handle national security emergencies, the sources said.

Personnel from some 20 government ministries and agencies, including the Executive Yuan, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, and the Central Bank of the Republic of China, are expected to take part in the exercise.

The aim is for the participants to respond and complete their respective tasks within 20 minutes, the sources said.
