KMT chairman aspirants are required to submit a registration form and a list of supporting signatures from at least 3 percent of KMT members (13,322 signatures), to register as a candidate, it added.

The race for the chairmanship is expected to be fierce as six hopefuls have indicated their intention to seek the nomination. These include incumbent KMT Chairwoman Hung Hsiu-chu (洪秀柱), former Vice President Wu Den-yih (吳敦義), KMT Vice Chairmen Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌), former KMT Vice Chairman Steve Chan (詹啟賢), former KMT Legislator Pan Wei-kang (潘維剛) and former Taipei Agricultural Products Marketing Corp. Chairman Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜), according to the party headquarters.

The KMT Central Standing Committee has set up a nine-member election supervisory committee to determine the validity of the signatures from Tuesday to Thursday, while announcing the list of eligible candidates and drawing ballot numbers on Friday.

There will be a two-week campaign period from May 6-19 before the election is held on May 20, according to the party.
