Taipei, March 18 (CNA) The Presidential Office on Saturday dismissed reports that Foreign Minister David Lee (李大維) will be assigned to serve as the next representative to Thailand.
The media cited sources as saying that Lee could be assigned to Bangkok after May 20, and that Vice Foreign Minister Leo Lee (李澄然) could be assigned to head the representative office in South Korea.
Presidential Office spokesman Alex Huang (黃重諺) said that the reports "are incorrect."
Eleanor Wang (王珮玲), a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, pointed out that the naming of representatives is under the authority of the president, and said that the ministry has no comment to make on the issue.
The Presidential Office announced a day earlier that Deputy Foreign Minister Javier Hou (侯清山) will serve as representative to Italy, while Paul Chang (章文樑), chief secretary of the ministry, will take over his position.
