Manila, March 17 (CNA) Palau signed an accord Friday to cooperate with the Republic of China (Taiwan) on immigration affairs and the prevention of human trafficking, according to a statement released by the ROC Embassy in Palau.
Palau's Minister of State Billy G. Kuartei signed the pact at the ROC embassy witnessed by the ROC Ambassador to Palau Michael Tseng (曾永光) and local officials responsible for immigration and foreign workers' affairs, the statement said.
Tseng was cited in the statement as saying that the accord, the 12th between Taiwan and Palau, took effect immediately.
Under the pact, the two countries will boost cooperation on immigration affairs and work to combat human trafficking, Tseng said, adding that Taiwan and Palau will also strengthen information sharing, personnel exchanges and training.
According to an agreement reached by the two governments, the ROC Minister of the Interior Yeh Jiunn-rong (葉俊榮) signed the accord in Taipei on March 2, the Embassy said.
Palau is one of 22 countries maintaining diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
