Taipei, April 11 (CNA) The German city of Berlin will be included in Central News Agency's overseas internship program this year, following the success last year of the inaugural program for undergraduates.

President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) and three university students who completed the internships last year jointly made the announcement at a promotional event held Thursday for the second edition of the program titled "I'm an Overseas Correspondent."

The three students were Tsai Peng-min (蔡芃敏) from Shih Hsin University's Department of Journalism, Wu Sheng-hung (吳昇鴻) from Chinese Culture University's Department of Journalism and Chi Jo-yao (齊若堯) from National Taiwan University's Department of Foreign Languages and Literature.

Tsai, Wu and Chi went to CNA's Washington bureau, the Chinese-language newspaper Sin Chew Daily in Kuala Lumpur and Indonesian news agency Antara in Jakarta, respectively, last year.

Following last year's success, CNA will hold workshops April 20-21 in New Taipei, May 4-5 in Taichung and May 18-19 in Kaohsiung, in which food and boarding will be provided free.

Registration will close April 15, April 24 and May 8 for the workshops in New Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung, respectively.

CNA President Chang Jui-chang (張瑞昌) said that a shortlist of students will be selected from the workshops to be interns at the agency before a final group will be sent overseas, based on their assessments.

The period of overseas internships will be one month and the students will be invited to give presentations about their experiences upon their return, Chang added.

Promotion of the second edition of the overseas internship program began in November last year, and seminars related to the program have already been held in 21 universities and colleges, Chang noted.
