Martial arts novelist Jin Yong dies at 94

Hong Kong, Oct. 30 (CNA) Renowned Chinese martial arts novelist Louis Cha (查良鏞), better known by his pen name Jin Yong (金庸), died Tuesday at a hospital in Hong Kong at the age of 94, according to the website of Hong Kong daily Ming Pao, which Cha founded in 1959.

Cha was born on March 10, 1924 in Haining, Zhejiang Province and moved to Hong Kong in 1948.

The wuxia (martial arts) novels he wrote, including "The Legend of the Condor Heroes," made Jin Yong a household name in Chinese communities around the world.

From 1955-1972, Cha wrote 15 novels under the pseudonym Jin Yong that earned him a reputation as one of the greatest and most popular wuxia writers ever. At the time of his death he was the best-selling living Chinese author, with more than 100 million copies of his works sold worldwide.
