Most Beautiful Bays world congress concludes in Penghu

Taipei, Sept. 29 (CNA) The 14th World Congress of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World (MBBW) concluded in the offshore island county of Penghu Saturday after three days of discussions on ocean sustainability and marine ecology.

Penghu County Magistrate Chen Guang-fu (陳光復) said at the closing ceremony that his county is proud of organizing the international event and hopes the MBBW serves as a platform for members to come together to discuss and share common values relating to ocean sustainability, marine ecology, tourism and renewable energy.

Witnessed by the outgoing MBBW President Maria das Dores Meira and the organization's president-elect Michel Bujold, Chen delivered the MBBW annual meeting flag to Yasunori Yamazaki, vice governor of Japan's Toyama Prefecture which will host next year's event.

Legislative Speaker Su Jia-chyuan (蘇嘉全), who was invited to address the closing ceremony, praised Chen for organizing such a successful three-day event.

Su said the congress was a great way to promote Penghu's international visibility and Taiwan's marine tourism assets to the world.

Headquartered in Vannes, Central France, the MBBW is an international non-governmental organization founded in 1997 and supported by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
