32 Taiwanese universities included in world university rankings

London, Sept. 26 (CNA) Led by National Taiwan University (NTU), Taiwan has 32 institutions among the best universities in the world, according to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2019 published Wednesday.

The rankings which was based on the performance of research-intensive universities across their teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook, according to the THE website.

Performing at the top of the 32 Taiwanese universities, NTU was ranked 170, moving up from last year's 198, the rankings showed.

Other Taiwanese universities included in the rankings were National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan Tech) and National Tsing Hua University in the 401-500 group.

China Medical University, National Cheng Kung University, National Chiao Tung University, National Yang-Ming University and Taipei Medical University were grouped in the 501-600 cohort, while Chang Gung University, National Sun Yat-Sen University and National Taiwan Normal University were found in the 601-800 grouping.

Asia University, Chung Yuan Christian University, Fu Jen Catholic University, Kaohsiung Medical University, National Central University, National Chengchi University, National Chung Hsing University, National Dong Hwa University, National Taipei University, National Taipei University of Technology and National Taiwan Ocean University made it into the 801-1000 best universities.

Meanwhile, Chaoyang University of Technology, Feng Chia University, I-Shou University, Ming Chuan University, National Changhua University of Education, National Chiayi University, National Chung Cheng University, National University of Kaohsiung, Tamkang University and Yuan Ze University were placed in the 1001+ category.

The latest rankings included more than 1,250 universities, with the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom topping the list, followed by University of Cambridge in the U.K., the rankings showed.

California Institute of Technology and Stanford University in the United States are both ranked third, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (5), Harvard University (6) and Princeton University (7), the rankings indicated.
