Taipei launches themed tours for Asian visitors

Taipei, July 26 (CNA) The Taipei City government on Wednesday launched a series of themed tours with the goal of attracting more visitors from across Asia.

Chen Hsi-yu (陳思宇), head of the city's Department of Information and Tourism, said a survey of visitor consumption patterns showed that 90 percent of the foreign tourists who visited Taiwan in 2017 took tours of Taipei.

With that in mind, Chen said, the city has devised several tour packages with diverse themes geared toward tourists from countries and areas across the region, not just the major tourism sources of China, Japan and South Korea.

The themed tour packages will target visitors from South and Southeast Asian countries, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, India and Singapore, she said.

For instance, one of the tour packages was specially designed for female visitors from Singapore, who like to do photo shoots in Taipei, Chen said.

Another package offers nail cosmetology and eyelash extension services, particularly for visitors from Muslim countries, while one featuring Michelin Star restaurants targets Hong Kong tourists, she said.

For visitors from Vietnam, there is a sightseeing and window shopping tour, while fashion and cosmetology are the main features of a package aimed at Thai tourists, Chen said.

According to the survey that was released Thursday, most foreign tourists like to visit night markets and monuments in Taipei and to go shopping and sightseeing in the city.

Night markets, Taipei 101, National Palace Museum, Ximending and Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall are five most popular tourist sites among foreign visitors in the city, the survey indicated.

The aspects of the city that foreign visitors find most impressive are its food, night markets, traffic and hospitality, the survey showed.

It found that 96 percent of foreign tourists were satisfied with their sightseeing and shopping experiences in Taipei, and 93 percent would consider visiting the city again.

Foreign tourists typically stay 4.35 days in Taipei and travel mainly on the city's mass rapid transport system, according to the poll.
