Taiwan hosts exchange workshop on leadership

Taipei, July 3 (CNA) A workshop on international exchanges that began July 1 continued through Tuesday in Taipei, bringing together 23 officials, business people and scholars from 11 countries.

The 2018 International Elite Leadership Seminar (IELS), organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), consists of field trips and forums that explore topics related to culture, cross-Taiwan Strait relations, environmental protection, foreign policy, humanitarian assistance, industrial development, and science and technology.

This year's event welcomed participants from Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Qatar, Iraq, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Saudi Arabia, as well as host Taiwan.

The IELS is now in its ninth year and serves as a platform for professionals to gain first-hand knowledge of Taiwan, while also enabling them to help bolster connections between Taiwan and their respective countries, according to MOFA.

Six local students are also taking part in the program to offer their perspectives on Taiwan and broaden their international horizons, MOFA said.

IELS was launched in 2010 for students and professionals aged 20-40. According to the MOFA, this year's group will visit sites including the National Palace Museum in Taipei, the National Center for Traditional Arts in Yilan County, and Taroko National Park in Hualien County.

The event will run through July 11.
