Israeli representative office donates books to Taiwanese library

Taipei, June 26 (CNA) The Israel Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei (ISECO) donated over 70 books on Jewish literature, art, society and culture to the National Central Library as part of efforts to increase understanding and deepen relations between Taiwan and the Middle Eastern country, ISECO said Tuesday.

The books are not only in Chinese but also in Hebrew, English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean and other languages, ISECO said, adding that it hopes that by donating the books, the public will have more opportunities to understand Israeli literary works.

Israel's Representative to Taiwan Asher Yarden said books are a tool for connecting people and that his office hopes that through the donated books, people in Taiwan will have the opportunity to understand Israel better and promote closer relations between Taiwan and Israel.

One of the books consists of the single word "Jew" printed 6 million times, to signify the number of Jews killed by the Nazis during the Holocaust.
