Taipei, June 21 (CNA) South Korea has been chosen as the theme country for the annual Taipei International Book Exhibition (TIBE) in 2020, with the aim of promoting bilateral literary exchanges, the organizers said Thursday.

Chao Cheng-ming (趙政岷), chairman of the Taipei Book Fair Foundation, said he hopes readers from Taiwan and South Korea will be able to learn more about each other's cultures through books.

He said books by Taiwanese authors have been well received in South Korea, as seen at the Seoul International Book Fair 2018, which is being held at the World Trade Center Seoul (COEX) until Sunday.

The Taiwan Pavilion at the annual book fair in Seoul opened Wednesday, with more than 30 publishers from Taiwan displaying Taiwanese literature titles, picture books and comics.

"The Taiwan Pavilion is featured every year at the Seoul book fair, which is an indication of Koreans' growing interest in books from Taiwan," Chao said. South Korea, meanwhile, was first featured as the main theme country at the TIBE in 2005, drawing a highly positive response, he said.
