Taiwan publisher wins international cookbook prize

Taipei, May 30 (CNA) Emily Publishing Company, Ltd., a book publisher representing Taiwan at the 2018 Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, won first prize in the translation category for its Chinese edition of the cookbook "Jerusalem."

The Chinese version of "Jerusalem" published by Emily beat out the shortlisted titles from 18 other countries to win the title of "Best in the World" for "Best Cookbook Translation."

"Jerusalem," written originally in English by Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi and translated into Chinese by Wang Ching-ying (王晶盈), was the only Taiwan-published cookbook to win an award this year, according to Emily Publishing.

There were more than 100 categories in the annual Gourmand Awards, which were held this year in Yantai, China, from May 25-28, according to its website.

Meanwhile, Emily Ching-Chun Chuang (莊靜君), editor-in-chief of Emily Publishing, told CNA that the copy of "Jerusalem" that was on display with the other shortlisted titles went missing.

When she told the organizers, Chuang said, they confirmed that it had been stolen and said only the best books at the awards tend to go missing.
