Taipei, Nov. 9 (CNA) A range of cultural and artistic performances will be staged Sunday in Taipei in celebration of the 152nd birthday of the founding father of the Republic of China (ROC), Dr. Sun Yat-sen (孫中山), the organizers said Thursday.

The theme of this year's celebrations is youth, happiness and vitality, according to the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and the ROC Unity and Self-Reliance Association, which are co-sponsoring the celebrations.

Marching bands, honor and color guards from Taipei Jingmei Girls High School, dances by the Taipei Rhythm and Dance Promotion Association and a variety of choirs will be among the presentations, the organizers said in a press release.

The choirs will include a group of visually impaired musicians, the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall volunteers' choir, and singers from the ROC Unity and Self-Reliance Association, according to the press release.

The nation's founding father, Sun Yat-sen (1866-1925), played a major role in the overthrow of the Qing dynasty, the last imperial dynasty of China, and founded the ROC in 1912.

The organizers said they hope Sunday's performances will help visitors to learn more about Sun and the Republic of China.
