Over 70 foreign students to compete in Chinese speaking competition

Taipei, Nov. 1 (CNA) A total of 77 foreign students from 14 countries will take part in an annual Chinese public speaking competition Friday at the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei, according to a press release.

The competition is organized by the memorial hall and only allows foreign students over the age of 18, enrolled at a Taiwanese educational institution, who do not have Taiwan citizenship to participate.

The press release indicates that participants come from various countries including Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand, the United States, Israel, France, the United Kingdom, Russia, Spain, Portugal, Malawi and Uganda.

Competitors are required to present a four to five minute speech on one of the following topics; their experience of happiness in Taiwan, confidence and humbleness, the revelation of nature, taking responsibility for your own decisions and small things that have a big impact, said the press release.

The organizers also invited visitors and enthusiasts of Chinese culture and language to come and watch the competition which starts at 9:00 a.m. Friday.
