University in Kinmen to establish social business research center

Taipei, Oct. 21 (CNA) National Quemoy University (NQU) in the offshore island county of Kinmen has signed a partnership agreement with the Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan to establish a social business research center, according to a press statement from the university on Saturday.

The Yunus Social Business Research Center, named after Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, promotes the development of social businesses in Taiwan, especially those ventures newly founded by young entrepreneurs, NQU President Huang Chi (黃奇) said in the statement.

Huang expressed confidence that the research center will have the resources needed to develop both international and local businesses through students that will attend the center.

The center will also prioritize cross-strait relations and cooperation with Association of Southeast Asian Nations member countries as it seeks to instill a sense of social responsibility in a younger generation of businesses people.

Tsai Huei-ling (蔡慧玲), chairperson of the foundation, said she hopes the partnership will encourage young people to embrace new values through which businesses can make a greater contribution to solving social problems.
