Taipei, Oct. 4 (CNA) A series of book signings by award-winning Taiwanese comic artist Zuo Hsuan (左萱) will be one of the highlights of Taiwan's presentations at the Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany this month, according to the Ministry of Culture.

The Taiwan pavilion at the fair will display Zuo Hsuan's first book "The Summer Temple Fair," her comic book "What She Put on the Table," and her illustration "White as Paper."

In addition, Zuo Hsuan, who won a bronze award at the Japan International Manga Award earlier this year for "The Summer Temple Fair," will hold three book signing sessions at the fair on Oct. 12, 13 and 14, the Ministry of Culture said.

"The Summer Temple Fair" is about a college student Hsia Chih-hsun who starts recovering forgotten childhood memories when he takes a classmate to his hometown in Taoyuan's Daxi District.

Hsia's return to Daxi coincides with an annual religious festival held in the community to celebrate the birth of Guan Yu, a general in the Eastern Han Dynasty (A.D. 25-220) who was later deified by many Chinese people.

Zuo Hsuan, who lived in Daxi with her grandparents when she was a child, said she did some field research in the area in preparation for "The Summer Temple Fair," which she described as a story about family relationships and friendship.

The artist, the only one from Taiwan selected to help promote the Taiwan presentation in Frankfurt, said she would be pleased to introduce Taiwanese culture and customs to foreign readers through her comic art.

Under the theme "Reading Taiwan," the pavilion will also display 807 print and digital publications from 98 Taiwanese publishers, according to the Ministry of Culture, which is sponsoring the pavilion in collaboration with the Taipei Book Fair Foundation.

The Taiwan organizers will also hold tea serving ceremonies at the pavilion and screen the documentary film series, "The Inspired Island: Series of Eminent Writers from Taiwan."

The ministry said it is also sponsoring the attendance of four representatives from Taiwan's publishing sector to promote copyright trading at the fair.

The Frankfurt Book Fair, the biggest in the world, will run from Oct. 11-15.
