Hakka Radio to be launched in June: president

Taipei, April 22 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) announced Saturday that Hakka Radio (講客廣播電台) will be launched in June, describing it as a "major step" to propagate and spread the language.

During an appearance at the Tong Blossom Festival in Hsinchu County, Tsai said the Hakka dialect is also a national language, and the most important thing needed to become a national language is that it be more widely used.

Through the efforts of the Hakka Affairs Council, Hakka Radio will be launched in June, the president said, adding that with Hakka television and radio, it will be a "major step" toward ethnic transitional justice.

The Hakka Affairs Council has said the radio station will be a national radio station, and its purpose will be to promote Hakka language and culture and foster Hakka ethnic groups' access to media and voice in cultural development.
